"A politician needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen." -Winston Churchill
Dear Mr. President, while I fully support your position on the Palestinian/Israeli peace talks, and agree that again-Prime Minister Netanyahu is becoming satire-worthy in his opposition to negotiation**... are you sure this all couldn't have waited one more teensy weensy month? I mean, I get the whole "political upheavel in the Middle East, wouldn't it look good for us to renew talks with the Palestinians" thing, but really. I'm sure the upheavel will still be around, doncha think?
So tomorrow morning I fly out for Israel, and just once I would like to enter a foreign country while it's still on good relations with the United States: France 2003- right after the invasion of Iraq; China 2006- George W; China 2008- still George W; China 2009- yaaaay Oba... oh, wait... what do you mean the yuan is deliberately undervalued? Grrr....; China 2010- shut up about Xinjiang. And now Israel 2011- pre-1967 borders are for the WEAK.
Le sigh. Clearly someone should be using my travel plans to forecast cooling attitudes toward the US. I wonder if I could put that somewhere on my resume.
